Reman is a large archipelago of islands ranging in size from a rock with a single bush and a hermit’s hut to the largest central island, Veritas, which is nearly 100 square miles (Approximately the size of Seattle). Total dry land is around 300 square miles, mostly covered in rolling hills and grasslands, with mountains and forests primarily on the larger islands, although some smaller islands are essentially forest from shore to shore. Rivers and streams criss-cross the land flowing primarily to the ocean.
The water between the individual islands is shallow and pocked with jagged rocks, sandbars and reefs just beneath the surface. Most travel between islands is done via shallow-draft barges and ferries. Larger ships require experienced navigators who know the safe routes through the treacherous waterways, or they have to dock at one of the outlying islands and pay to ferry goods and people from there.
Reman is a constitutional monarchy under King Agustus XI, who is advised by a cabinet of 9 elected Ministers. He reigns from the capital city of Rema located around the Western harbors of Veritas. Every free citizen of Reman serves two years in the Navy between their 16th and 22nd years, and if they choose not to stay after fulfilling that obligation they are considered a member of the Kingdom Militia for the rest of their life. The Navy is small in number but well equipped and trained, and they have enough ships in dock that if the Militia is called up a very formidable fighting force can be brought to bear. In addition to the Navy, there are watchtowers and occasionally small garrisons on some of the outlying islands.
In additions to being a trading hub, Reman is home to the oldest Human magical research University. There is also a thriving mining and logging industry, farms are scattered across all of the islands, and fishing is a major industry.
